Most sexually transmitted infections don’t announce themselves. Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, hepatitis B and HIV can all sit quietly for weeks, months or even years without a single symptom. That is exactly why testing matters. Feeling fine is not the same as being clear.
If you live in Vadodara and have been putting off a test because you’re worried about being judged, or about someone you know seeing you at a clinic, this guide is for you.
Why STD testing is important, even without symptoms
- Many infections are silent. A large share of people with chlamydia or gonorrhoea notice nothing at all, especially women.
- Untreated infections cause lasting harm. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. Untreated syphilis can affect the heart, brain and nerves. Hepatitis B can damage the liver over time.
- Early HIV diagnosis changes everything. With treatment started early, people with HIV live long, healthy lives, and an undetectable viral load means HIV is not passed on sexually.
- You protect your partner. Testing is one of the most caring things you can do in a relationship, new or long term.
- Peace of mind. Weeks of worry often end with one simple, negative result.
Who should get tested?
Consider an STD test if any of these apply to you:
- You’ve had unprotected sex, or a condom broke or slipped
- You have a new partner, or more than one partner
- Your partner has been diagnosed with an STI
- You notice discharge, burning while passing urine, sores, rashes, itching or unexplained fever
- You’re planning a pregnancy, or starting a new relationship and want a clean slate together
- You’ve never been tested before

Timing matters: don’t test too early
Every test has a window period, the time between exposure and when the test can reliably pick up an infection. Test too early and you may get a false reassurance. A doctor can tell you which test to take now and whether you need a repeat later. Read more in our guide to the HIV window period.
If the exposure happened within the last 72 hours, don’t wait for a test. Call us straight away about PEP, the emergency medicine that can prevent HIV.
Common STD tests we offer
- HIV testing: 4th generation antigen and antibody, and NAT (RNA PCR) for earlier detection
- Syphilis (VDRL and TPHA)
- Hepatitis B and hepatitis C
- Chlamydia and gonorrhoea
- Herpes (HSV 1 and 2) when relevant
The doctor recommends only the tests that fit your exposure and timing.
